Trip Description
megalodon_hand300Join Reef Ministries as we dive for fossil shark teeth and the impressive Megalodon teeth!  This exclusive charter takes us to rare fossil grounds off the shores of Venice Beach, Florida.  Venice Beach has been a hot spot for finding various shark's teeth on the beach and in the shallow surf zone.  However, we are embarking on an off-shore charter with a diving company that specializes in collecting the highly prized Megalodon shark teeth.  This two-tank charter trip allows you plenty of bottom time in the shallow 28 foot depths to sift through the sand collecting sharks teeth, sting ray barbs, manatee ribs, whale teeth and bones just to name a few.

The Megalodon Shark (Carcharocles Megalodon) is believed to be the ancestor of our modern day great white shark.  The size of this fish is estimated to be between 40' to 60' in length.  Megalodon teeth can be from a few inches to about the size of a hand.  Some Megalodon teeth are worth hundreds of dollars.  You will also find the teeth of Great White, Lemon, Mako, Tiger, Sand Tiger and even some extinct shark species.

megalodon_scale300So why does this area have so many fossils?  Well, conventional science says this was a prehistoric dinosaur feeding ground millions of years ago.  However, that does not fit a Biblical worldview.  On this trip Tec Clark will lead a devotional that brings credible theories of secular science and creation science to explain this fascinating regional phenomenon in a clear Biblical perspective.

The Megalodon Shark Teeth trip lasts approximately 5 hours.  They allow you to dive as long as your air supply safely lasts.  The experienced crew will tell you where to dig, what to look and feel for, and they will identify what you bring up.

FAQs

What's it like to collect fossil sharks teeth while diving?
You simply descend, find yourself a spot on the bottom, and dig through the sand. You will be feeling around mostly as visibility is from a couple feet to ten feet depending on conditions.  Since you are not moving much you can tend to get cold faster.  The colder you are, the more air you will consume which shortens your dive.  Best bet is to stay as warm as possible by wearing full exposure suit protection.  It is fun and exciting digging up fossil teeth, you can hardly wait to bring them up, learn what you have, and show everyone!

Who can participate in this trip?
This trip is for certified divers who are comfortable and proficient in the water scuba diving.  Since the objective is to collect fossil teeth, your own self-reliance is very important.  You will need to monitor your air very closely.  Buddy contact may be limited with visibility and focusing so much on items in the sand.

Where can I rent equipment?
Your charter trip includes tanks and weights, but if you would like to rent or purchase other items you may do so at Florida West Scuba (Venice) or Pro Dive (Fort Lauderdale).
